You will still need a valid product registration code, and some expertise with drivers to tailor this to your specific PC. A pity. I was hoping it would be useful.

You need this disk if the following applies:br /1) You've reformatted your disk and reinstalling XP from scratchbr /2) Or, you've replaced the original hard drive with a new onebr /3) Your PC is a Dell shipped with Windows XP Home Edition (see sticker).br /4) You lost the original/can't get a replacement any other way.br /br /Some notes here:br /* This is a Windows XP/Home OEM disk with 1 difference: means of activationbr /* Dell is on a short list of Microsoft-favored OEM's which activates differently.br /* A non-favored OEM machine will/must activate other the Internet, or manually by phone call to Microsoft.br /* Dell machine activation is done local to the PC--no Internet activation is required.br /* In fact, Microsoft recently changed activation to block any Dell over-the-Internet with shipped key.br /* A copy of the Product Key is stored in the motherboard/BIOS. Activation is done against this.br /* This is the difference between this disk vs. an OEM XP. This disk does a BIOS activation check, instead of Internet.br /* It doesn't matter whether the disk has been opened or not, it'll still work.br /* It's legal to copy this disk, and use a copy.br /* This disk is only good for Dell machines.br /* You can actually order a replacement disk from Dell, instead of buying this, but they limit it to 1 disk per customer.br /* Doesn't matter which Service Pack this disk is vs. original.br /* The Home vs. Professional difference is important.br /* If push comes to shove, you can buy a 2nd non-Dell OEM XP license+disk for about $90. This CD is a lifesaver for a Dell when you need to reinstall XP on your Dell computer. It is also good if you just want an updated version with SP2 already on it.br /br /The license for XP should be on the side of your Dell computer with the keycode on it. As long as you have a Dell computer this CD will not ask you for a keycode. The CD is not the license, the STICKER on your Dell computer is the license.br /br /It will prompt you for a keycode if you try to install this on a NONDELL system so dont bother buying it if you dont have a dell, dude.br /
