This Program is Exceptional For Learning ASL October 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I too was a little aprehensive when I saw the date on the product, but for a lousy $20 - I thought I'd check it out. br /br /First: It runs on everything PC. I have it installed on 3 machines that run 1)Windows XP Pro 2)Windows Vista 32 bit and 3) Windows Vista 64 bit. It runs great on all of them. br /br /I am a college student enrolled for 3 consecutive courses in ASL, and after using SigningAvatar v.2 for several weeks, I am really pleased with how much it is helping me. I can make the person avatar be closer or further from me (smaller or larger),turn him (or Her - there's about 10 to choose from) all the way from left to right. This enables me to see the hands from any angle. I can also speed up or slow down the avatar's signing to whatever pace meets my level of proficiency.br /br /With a word-search textbox, I can ask it to finger spell the word, make the sign for a word, and put the sign into a sentence. Of course there is an alphabet roster on the bottom of the screen so anytime I need to, I can see the person avatar sign any letter of the alphabet. I highly recommend SigningAvatar to anyone who is serious about learning American Sign Language.
This is an old version! January 1, 2006 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
There is a new version of this out-dated product! br /br /While the ASL Deluxe product (Instant Immersion American Sign Language Deluxe) is probably the way to go, there is a new 5 CD ROM ASL edition out from TOPICS too at about the same (or lower) price as this old one, called TOPICS ENTERTAINMENT Total Immersion American Sign Language 2.0 ( Windows ) here on Amazon. br /br /There is also a new basic 2 CD ROM package with selected new content. br /br /The NEW versions have a dark-haired woman on the box. br /br /It's confusing because they have called this outdated product 2.0 as well. br /br /Check out the new edition(s) before making your decision! br /br /*** New comments 07-12-2006 ***br /br /Ok, now the picture shows the new box, but the description is still for the old version of the product. Still a bit confusing. If this is now a listing for the new 2.0 product, the one now pictured, I highly endorse it.br /br /
