Canon Console January 6, 2009 The program works well, but getting it activated was a royal pain. You have to have it loaded and running with the camera to be used in order to give them a 16 digit code, in which they will then return you with a 16 digit code. The 1st couple of attempts failed, until I found someone that explained the sequence of events required to generate all the required codes. The software also does not work on vista. And if you plan to install the software on multiple computers, you will need to walk through the whole activation process again. Otherwise, the program functions ok, but is out dated. Also, if you want to install with a different camera, that will require another phone call. As long as you use the same camera, the same codes will work. Also, it's best to download and install version 1.1, then activate that one. The one on the disk did not want to work, go figure...!?
Very Powerful - But Lackluster July 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
*****DO NOT INSTALL VERSION FROM CD*****br /This is my first experience with a prosumer camera. We needed to record church services from a sound booth in the back of the auditorium. After much research, I chose a Canon XH-A1 and the Console Software. Installation was very confusing. If you buy this, make sure you do not install it from the CD. Install the software from the trial page download on Canon's Website. Then enter the activation information they include with the purchase. The version mailed, if installed, does not recognize the unlock code necessary to run the full version. br /br /After the install, it is a very easy piece of software to use. It just seems to me that it would have more options for the money. Many consumer line cameras come with limited controls, and many of the popular video editing software titles can capture real time and control basic functions. I would like to see a batch converter, or at least the ability to choose some of the more common formats for video compression for saving the capture. br /br /Be advised that it is not capturing at real time. There is a slight delay for in the output monitor. The audio is synchronized correctly to the video - just time-shifted a little. I don't think it is my computer (Intel Dual-Core Duo 3Ghz, 4GB Ram, Dual 7200rpm SATA3 HDD) br /br /Overall, if I was making the decision again, I may be inclined to look at another method for remote camera control.br /
