Brilliant Game November 22, 2008 This is a true classic and definitely lived up to the hype and expectation. By far the BEST in the FALLOUT series/universe. The environment is extremely immersive and the time flies by while playing. The graphics are very good but could be better when dealing with distance through a weapons scope. The movement of the NPC's is clunky and unrealistic but tolerable when you see the environment you are surrounded with. There are plenty of destroyable objects scattered across the landscape and the plot can twist into multiple outcomes based on earlier decisions. br /br /Well done!!!br /br /Graphics = great scenery, detail, terrain, explosions, and images. They definitely nailed the 50's style with animations, PIP Boy, Nuka-Cola, vehicles, and all post war technology. Very imaginative and highly creative! The water is beautiful on the surface but buggy when going to and from submersion. br /br /Sound: I loved the 50's music playing on the radios and I think the sound effects are top notch. The only complaint I have is the lack of variety in the songs playing. There are plenty but you tire of them after about 10 hours of game play. I think the best song choice that makes the downtown DC wreckage just stew with realism and effect is the "I don't want to set the world on fire..." Try standing on the wreckage of a building and looking out over the city with the sun setting. Amazing! br /br /Game play: Great combination of RPG and FPS. I love the ability to think strategically like an RPG (earlier versions of Fallout) but the environment, POV, interaction of an FPS. NPC's were the weakest point in the game. They don't move realistically over the terrain and stand out as being from a different game because they do not match the level of realism of the terrain.br /br /Story/Plot: Brilliant storyline. I do wish the plot was a bit deeper and emotionally engaging but this game was still strides above the average FPS plotline out there.br /br /Platform stability: This is by far the weakest area for this game. There were missions that were especially buggy - Regulators comes to mind. There was quirkiness with some of the terrain getting splotches of jittery light in the side of a hill or what not. I experienced many crash to desktop and system crashes. I also had a setback when the Autosave game became corrupt and I lost about an hour or two of gameplay. br /br /Overall: Phenomenal and amazing. This game tackles a large chunk of graphical, sound, and game play limitations that are normally skipped over in games because they require too much work. I've read some complaints of using the Oblivion engine but I think this is a huge improvement over Oblivion and more interesting/fun. I do think some better story writing would make this truly priceless. Needs a few patches to round it out. Anxiously anticipating the sequel or expansions!
Bethesda could have done better.... November 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now i love The elder scrolls series but this game is just awful,It felt like i was playing Oblivion but The game and quests are buggy,i was always having to save for fear of losing my spot in game. And i wanted to buy this game cause of the great work on elder scrolls but if you want to play a game with zombies and no crashes or bugs try Left 4 Dead maybe cause i wish i had bought that game then this one.The only good thing about this game was the voice acting of Liam Neeson,Malcolm McDowellbr /and Ron Perlman and thats it sadlybr /
A new kind of Fallout that is worth the time! November 21, 2008 It took some time to get used to playing Fallout as a FPS. I'm a big fan of Fallout 1 and 2 replaying both of those games leading up to this one.br /br /This game is NOT what I thought it would be! It far exceeds what I expected. The universe is huge, the graphics great, and the character system even more defining than the previous. While the initial story line IS short it gets you so hooked into the game its hard to leave it. br /br /The variety of weapons and the difference in effects, flavor, and combat damage are all very complelling. More than a few times I found my self jump in my seat when a trap went off or when a foe found me. I haven't had that happen in a FPS or MMO. br /br /Whereas the humor is different it is still there. I was really shocked when I was told to F-off by an 10 year old! It is DEFINITELY a mature game. Lock the den door if you have kids. br /br /Overall its been a blast! I'm not done and I'm anxious to get back to it.

To start out, this is a "Game(s) for Windows"...Why then do I have to spend two hours trying to install it?? The install seemed to go fine until you try to start a new game, then it crashes to Windows. Come to find out you have to download a 3rd party codec in order for the game to work... So after installing the game, installing new codec, uninstalling the game, reinstalling the game, it finally worked...for a while... br / At random times in game, it will just crash to Windows or crash and lock up Windows or BSoD. I tried to patch the game... The patch will show 100% complete, however, it and the game will lock up (Not responding). br / On top of all this after it BSoD I get a SYSTEM FILE corrupt/missing. After repairing windows SECROM magically finds an emulator (which I've never had or used) and won't start the game...br /br / I guess in light of the fact that you need a 3rd party codec, SECROM thinks my Samsung DVD drive is an emulator, it corrupts Windows; this is not a "Game(s) for Windows" but a "Game(s) for Dells".br /br /The game itself (when it runs) is pretty nice. It's an interesting take on combat, and a nice combination of RBG and FPS.br /br /Update:br /A. My Rig, ASUS Maximus II Formula MOBO, 4Gb OCZ Gold, E8400 or Q6600 CPU(depending on what I feel like using at the time) EVGA 8800GTS, X-fi sound card, Seagate SATA HDD, XP Pro SP3 (all drivers up to date).br /B. My system was 100% stable prior to installing the game (No lock up's, no BSoD, NO REGISTRY ERRORS!) After uninstalling Fallout 3 (and the codecs required to play it) my system is stable again (Time to finish Farcry 2). I have never had any issues like this before.br /C. I am reviewing the game, the game does not come with everything needed to play it, it is not "made for Windows", it caused Windows to become corrupted and had to "repair/reinstall".
Big Bethsoft fan November 20, 2008 I've been playing Bethesda games since Elder Scrolls: Arena. I played Skynet, Redguard, Battlespire, and the entire Elder scrolls series. I've loved them all. I love this game (I think much of the vulgarity is high school kid level and gratuitous, BUT I can't say I wasn't forewarned: I just think my definition of "adult entertainment" may vary from the mainstream). Issue: I bought the collector's edition October 30th and couldn't get it running until mid November. Now that it IS running, it's gorgeous, fun, addictive, immersive. I felt mistreated by Bethsoft support, though. They always apologized for my woes, but I called several times, long distance, and went through the same litany each time as to why the game would freeze two seconds into play. (I have a more than adequate system.) One techie actually told me the problem was my NVIDIA card (GTX8800), although the manual says the game was designed and tested on NVIDIA cards. I finally got relief by going to SECUROM, on my own, and running their alternate .exe file. The games runs very well at high specs now, but still freezes from time to time. A reboot fixes the problem.br /br /Bottom line? (1) Kudos for a job well done. (2) A personal install disaster for me.
