Dummies November 16, 2008 This is a little light. The on-line Ubuntu community provides a much more comprehensive and helpful resource.
Good book. Read on... August 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have long shelve of books on linux and unix. This is one decent book on ubuntu but it is what the title says: it is book for a very beginner and in this role it is very credible reading. You should not expect from it any "advanced" subjects, but it walks you trough first time ubuntu experience. It outlines and crisply describes basic things for first time users. It is not up to current version, but it is still very reliable. br /If you are looking for more than merely basic guide see Ubuntu, Kubuntu 8.04 and Linux Training Library 2DVDs+CD as it comes with great PDF library on CD. br /If you never touched Linux before you probably need the Linux/Unix course see Linux and UNIX for a beginner complete training suite, 4DVDs + 2CDs ed.2008
Outdated information useless - cd is corrupted July 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The book is outdated. The latest version of Ubuntu (8) can not be learned using this book. I decided to switch to the version included with the book to prevent a total loss, but the CD files were corrupt and would not load. Book is useless. CD doesn't work. Save your money and don't buy.
Good beginning May 11, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This provides a great beginning overview to Ubuntu Linux and had some very interesting history about it. Switching from Microsoft to Linux, this book carefully explained the similarities and differences. Because Ubuntu is very intuitive, some of the book's sections were simplistic, but thorough in the explanation. Overall, a very good starting point in learning the new OS.

The book is for an outdated verison of Ubuntu. This book is for V6 and current version is V7. Still, much is the same.
