1 out of 5 stars Seriously, don't buy it used or it won't work!   July 3, 2008

I have no idea how the game is because I bought it from an Amazon marketplace seller and now the "Steam" anti-piracy protection system won't let me play it.br /br /I went to the Steam support pages like I was told to, and I read this:br /br /"... you must have a copy of your purchase receipt from within the last 90 days to have the CD Key moved to your account. br / br /"We do not accept receipts from online auction websites or used software vendors. If you do not provide a purchase receipt, Valve will not be able to transfer the CD Key."br /br /br /I can't believe that anyone accepts this as a reasonable way to sell consumers a game in a box, but I guess they do!br /br /I read a thread on some Half-Life 2 forum where the users were telling a guy not to bother Valve, the software creators, with questions about their policy, but rather just to return his used game to whoever he bought it from.br /br /Unbelievable!br /br /From what I hear, maybe if I send the right person at Valve an actual photo of my box, and wait two months, I might be allowed to play. However, that's certainly not what the text on the Steam support page says.br /br /If this is really the accepted practice regarding used copies of Half-Life 2, then what is Amazon doing letting their marketplace sellers sell these used copies?br /br /Unbelievable! How much research is one supposed to do when buying a game?br /

5 out of 5 stars Well worth it   December 28, 2007
This is one of the best games every made. If you don't have it, buy and take a week off work and play it until your job/money/girlfriend situation needs attention. It come with Counter strike, a super fast online shooter. Very addicting. Great graphics physics. It'll run on your old computer and won't require a powerhouse to enjoy great graphics. This game was the best when it came out and still is not outdated. Well worth the money, you'll enjoy it if you like sci-fi, shooters, online multi-player shooters, puzzles. This has a plot, and comes with Counter strike if you dont feel like getting emerged and just want to play. Oh, and it comes with a size XL black t-shirt. sweeeet

4 out of 5 stars Needs more   August 23, 2007
The game is awesome but the one thing it needs as collector's ed. is some behind the scenes stuff. Other wise it is perfect.

4 out of 5 stars Hmmm....   December 25, 2006

Since this game appeared to have a legendary status, I decided to try it out, even if I'm not that big on first person shooters. It had some creative moments, especially with the gravity gun towards the final moments of the game, but other than that, it was a typical bread and butter first person shooter: occasional fun gameplay with pretty good graphics. For all the hype it received, I thought it was a little overrated though, but to each its own. I actually liked Call of Duty better, but that may just be my taste in games. Call of Duty was a more visceral experience, while Half Life was more of an acid trip focusing on dark moods and trippy environments.br /br /The collector's edition comes with the first Half-life, which felt a little dated right after I beat Half-Life 2. The included counterstrike was typical conterstrike with better graphics, and the free t-shirt allows you to flaunt your "geek-dom" to the world who may recognize the logo on the shirt. It's actually a nice black shirt, which I wore a few times for basketball for some wear and tear exercise.br /br /I got my collector's edition for $30 on Amazon a while back, which warranted me the purchase to give the "best game ever made" a try. The game is only alright though... still leagues behind starcraft and counterstrike in my opinion... or console series like Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy...etc. If you can get this game cheap, go get one. Otherwise, just play from your friend's.
